SDA Announces New Director of Coaching
SDA is excited to announce that Steven Axtell will step into the role of Director of Coaching and Club Standards.
Steve currently coaches the '02, '01 and '00 boys’ teams. On top of his duties with SDA, he is also currently the Head Coach at SUNY Cortland, where his team finished the 2018 season ranked 9th nationally.
In this role, Steve will be responsible for updating the curriculum for each age group, overseeing the coaching staff, and maintaining a series of standards by which the club will operate.
When asked about the new role, Steve responded by saying:
“I want to thank Mike Paolini for the opportunity and a leadership role in the club. SDA is filled with passionate coaches and people, and I’m excited to help augment the good work that’s already being done.”
Steve has coached soccer since the age of 17 and attributes his passion for coaching to his mentor David Ranieri.
“I was fortunate to have a mentor that taught me the importance of working with kids, and the obligation that comes with it. Players deserve the absolute best from their coaches every day, and that’s a standard I take very seriously.”
Steve is transitioning into this role immediately and will be implementing new initiatives as soon as this spring season. He will take a more formal approach to the 2019/2020 season which will include implementing a comprehensive curriculum that spans from our YDP program to our oldest teams.
